Featured and top are inequal
2008, April 27. by sknownotice
I think I just have understood the difference between “featured post” and “top post”. The answer lies here, on my web log. Until yesterday, I noticed there are two posts on my web log had been publicized as featured posts under the “odt” tag and “abolish” tag. Namely “I hate you, docx” and “Copy it right, don’t you? Part 3 of 3” under respective tags. Astonished by the results, my first impression was like: “How did my controversial posts end up there?”.
But then you might agree why these posts are just as good as mediocre. My post “Copy it right, don’t you?” series had achieved only up to 3 views. Another post, “I hate you docx” is written in a very honest and straightforward style with a sprinkle of my opinion. It achieved better response with 33 views, placed third in my top five posts. Now you are asking: “What’s in for top posts?”.
From my experience, top posts are simple and clearly written posts. Perhaps that’s how my top post, “Ubuntu 8.04 LTS and Firefox 3 in brief” got 136 views and followed by “Flash drives does have a lifespan” with 57 views. The topic of the top post may be popular but creative and original style are most likely attractive to readers. To my surprise, these posts are unexpected to be among my top five posts: “About this web log” and “Imagine we have a tail to wag“.

Small notice here:
My featured post under “abolish” tag has been replaced by somebody else’s post. Updated: My post became a featured post again! Why?
